Business is not only about making money. It is about understanding people, solving problems and creating something useful for others.
I grew up in a family where my parents were businesspeople. Since I was young, I was surrounded by products and often heard my parents talking about customers, demand, supply, prices and the problems they faced in their business.
I watched how they made decisions, solved problems and found ways to keep their business running. Without even realising it, I was learning about business through everyday life.
This experience taught me something important: children can learn a lot simply by listening, observing and asking questions.
Why Should Children Learn Business?
Learning business at 10 or 12 years old can help us:
- Think differently – Learn to see opportunities where others see problems.
- Understand money – Discover how money is earned, spent, saved and invested.
- Become better problem-solvers – Understand that most problems have possible solutions.
- Develop confidence – Learn to share ideas, ask questions and make decisions.
- Understand the world – Discover how products are made, why people buy them and how businesses serve society.
- Become more open-minded – Learn that there are many ways to think, work and succeed in life.
Business Can Be Part of Everyday Conversations
I believe parents and teachers should sometimes talk about business in front of children.
It can be something simple, such as why the price of rice has increased, why one shop has more customers than another, or how a business solves a customer’s problem.
These conversations can make children curious. They begin asking questions, thinking about solutions and understanding how the world works.
Children do not need to start a business at 12 years old. But they can start learning how business works.
A Message to Young Students
You are never too young to learn something useful.
Be curious. Ask questions. Observe what happens around you. Learn from your parents, teachers and the people you meet.
Remember, success is not only about becoming rich. It is also about becoming someone who can think clearly, solve problems, help others and make good decisions.
The earlier you learn to understand the world, the better prepared you may become for your future.
